Earth Summit Post on Single Use Plastic by Harris Garrard Academy Students

Intro

We are students from Harris Garrard Academy and we spent the day at the Earth Summit organised by the Bexley Eco Festival. We learned about digital marketing and created posts to promote the day.

What is single use plastic?

Single-use plastic products (SUPs) are plastic products designed to only be used once, or for a short period of time and then thrown away.

How did it impact the environment?

This can impact the environment heavily. For example, humans use about 1.2 million plastic bottles per minute in total. Approximately 91% of plastic is not recycled. Global emissions skyrocketed in the 1970’s due to the fact that the extraction and transportation of fossil fuels emits an annual estimate of 12.5 to 13.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.

Single Use Plastics

Single use plastics include plastic bags, water bottles, takeaway coffee cups, and plastic straws.

What we can do to reduce the use of Single Use Plastics?

Some things we could do to help:

· Carry a reusable bottle.

· Take a reusable coffee cup.

· Don’t use disposable plastic cutlery.

· Carry reusable shopping bags.

What we learned and enjoyed about today
